The IPA deny global warming, think that they are completely independent of politics (yet their head honcho, John Roskam, is leading the federal liberals) and generally run amok, with their juvenile philosophy of ' nonsense economics will save the world at every cost'.
Don't listen to them.

Have you considered writing this up in a 700 word article and submitting it to The Age as an opinion piece?

Not necessarily as a direct reply, but discussing the fixed/variable costs, demand elasticity, etc?

With the myki issues, plus the recent Moran article, it's topical enough that you might get it in; they do publish from younger readers sometimes, and since you're doing a degree in the area, that might help.

Anyway, something to think about...

Nice rundown, Phin. Highly enjoyable to read, and as always, it makes me glad that there's someone as informed and balanced in their opinions as you are. Now if only you were in a position of power!

I especially like the point under Focusing on roads is good for drivers. There's a delicious irony there, and I love the fact that logically, whether you enjoy driving or you enjoy public transport, either way it's in your best interests to advocate PT!
